Vector Network Analysers

LA19-13-04A – 6 GHz Four receiver Vector Network Analyser

The LA19-13-04A is a PC-driven Vector Network Analyser boasting great performance in a very compact package. It provides great flexibility including mixer measurement capability, fast speed and wide dynamic range. It is useful for measuring a wide range of devices from 300 kHz to 6 GHz with 10 Hz resolution. The instrument uses innovative techniques to achieve outstanding characteristics such as 0.005 dB rms trace noise at its highest operating bandwidth of 140 kHz and measurement speeds of 180  us per point for all four s-paramters.

The user interface control software provides many useful features including reference plane extension, de-embedding memory functions, limit lines, time-domain. In addition to a calibration kit editor it also provides utilities such as mixer measurements (conversion loss, match, port to port isolation and compression), signal generator and measurement of power at the 1 dB gain compression point as a function of frequency are provided. Support for third party tools such as VEE and LabView is by means of DLL libraries.

The optional 3.5mm calibration kits use TRL referred calibration standards resulting in excellent VNA performance. Please see the data sheet for pricing information.

LA19-13-04 – 6 GHz Four receiver Vector Network Analyser

The LA19-13-04 is a super compact PC-driven Vector Network Analyser. It incorporates some unique circuit techniques to achieve outstanding performance at a very affordable price. It provides great accuracy, fast speed and wide dynamic range. It is an ideal choice for use in a wide range of applications from 300 kHz to 6 GHz.  Some of its key features are 180 us sweep speed, trace noise of only 0.005 dB rms at its highest operating bandwidth of 140 kHz and a dynamic range of 118 dB.

The user interface software was developed by long term users of VNAs and  provides a wide range of useful features including reference plane extension, de-embedding memory functions, limit lines, time-domain. In addition to a calibration kit editor it also provides utilities such as signal generator mode, measurement of power at the 1 dB gain compression point as a function of frequency and AM to PM conversion are provided. Support for third party tools such as VEE and LabView is by means of DLL libraries.

8GHz Full S-parameter low cost Vector Network Analyser (obsolete)

The LA19-13-03 is a PC-driven Vector Network Analyser. It provides great flexibility, fast speed and wide dynamic range. It is useful for measuring a wide range of devices from 300 kHz to 8 GHz with 10 Hz resolution. By means of external links on the front panel, the internal couplers can be bypassed for direct access to the internal receivers. This flexibility allows, for example, high power amplifier measurements to be carried out using an external booster amplifier and couplers. It is housed in a small lightweight package making it very portable.

The user interface control software provides many useful features including memory functions, limit lines, de-embedding, time-domain and reference plane extension. Also, utilities such as a comprehesive signal generator and measurement of power at the 1 dB gain compression point as a function of frequency are provided. Support for third party tools such as VEE and LabView is by means of DLL libraries.

The optional 3.5mm calibration kits use Rosenberger calibration standards and are supplied with measured load data resulting in excellent kit performance.

OEM Vector Network Analysers

Our company can provide Vector Network Analysers tailor made for specific applications. In particular customers requiring a reduced footprint and set of features can benefit from considering an OEM design. For example, production testing of antennas or antenna installations may only require return loss measurement. In such a case, even a modest production facility may benefit from lower capital and maintenance costs even after taking into account tooling charges.

A good example of an OEM design is our LA19-14-02 Reflectometer. This was based on our LA19-13-01 standard product. The Reflectometer measures return loss and it is specifically intended for breast cancer detection.

It is a very fast instrument, able to measure at 200µs per frequency point whilst maintaining excellent linearity and a trace noise of less than 0.006dBrms. Measurement errors within 0.01dB and 0.1° are possible without resorting to averaging or other enhancement techniques. Power consumption is low at less than 10W.

Our core capability for OEM implementations is as follows.

  • 200µs/point for single s-parameter measurement speed
  • 500µs/point all four s-parameter measurement speed

Signal Generators

We offer a multi-decade signal generator capable of operation to 8 GHz. Our new versatile and affordable
LA19-15-04 instrument operates from 300 kHz to 8 GHz with sub Hz step size and with a 10 ppm settling time of 45 us for any size tuning step. It provides
0.1 Hz resolution, +17 dBm output with 30 dB of amplitude control. Linear and arbitrary (list) frequency and amplitude sweeps are supported. In addition, complex (phase and amplitude) sweep modes can emulate modulation schemes such as QPSK. External FM and AM modulation is also supported. The LA19-15-04 is available now. Synthesizer Modules

We offer multi-decade synthesizer modules capable of operation beyond 8 GHz. A good example is the
LA19-15-03 module capable of tuning from 300 kHz to 8 GHz with a 10 ppm settling time of 45 us for
any size tuning step. It provides 10 Hz resolution, +15 dBm output with 30 dB of amplitude control. The LA19-15-03 is available now. Download the data sheet here

Driver Amplifiers

LA Techniques designs and manufactures a range of broad band amplifiers aimed mainly but not exclusively for use as drivers for high speed optical modulators. Intended for systems data rates to 40Gb/s.

The amplifiers employ a range of technologies including GaAs MMICs (microwave monolithic integrated circuits) and discrete feedback techniques.

Pulse Pattern Generators

The LA19-13-02 is a PC-driven Vector Network Analyser suitable for measuring a wide range of devices from 3 MHz to 3 GHz with 100 Hz resolution. Its full s-parameter test set includes bias-Ts for biasing active devices. It is housed in a small lightweight package making it very portable.

The user interface control software provides many useful features including memory functions, limit lines, de-embedding, time-domain and reference plane extension. Also, utilities such as measurement of power at the 1 dB gain compression point and AM to PM conversion factor add versatility to the instrument. Unique features include OSL calibration that does not require a precision load and importing of data files into memory traces for live comparison with measurements.
